STAR signs media IP network expansion deal with BT

Hong Kong-based broadcaster looks for increased delivery speed, security and reliability to the United States

BT Media and Broadcast sector has been awarded a multi-million dollar three year managed service IP network solution contract for STAR Group, Asia’s leading media and entertainment company. STAR broadcasts over 60 services in ten languages, reaching more than 300 million viewers in 53 countries across Asia. The service will run across BT's Global Media Network, an MPLS enabled IP network designed specifically for carrying broadcast traffic.


BT Media & Broadcast’s digital archive and workflow service enables new business models for UK’s leading independent commercial broadcaster

BT Media & Broadcast, part of BT’s Global Services division, today has announced that it has developed a digital content store based upon its BT Mosaic Service to enable ITV, the UK’s leading independent commercial broadcaster, to deliver its world-class television library on-demand to internet users and other broadcasters around the globe.  The content store supports new business models to complement ITV’s television advertising revenues.

BT’s Media and Broadcast sector has implemented a state of the art network based managed services deal for STAR Group, Asia’s leading media and entertainment company broadcasting over 60 services in ten languages and reaching more than 300 million viewers in 53 countries across Asia.

The deal is significant for STAR as it shifts technology platforms from the traditional satellite and leased circuit service to the Multi Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) / Internet Protocol (IP) technology for their contribution link to Europe.  The new system allows STAR to bring its services to the U.K. and Europe with greater ease, more manageability and in a more efficient manner.
