Ian Munford

Ian joined BT Media & Broadcast in August 2005, building on a six-year background of successful corporate venturing in media within BT.

He brings a comprehensive and detailed knowledge of digital media technologies, with unrivalled experience of where and how it impacts not only internal business processes but also how it will help media companies react to opportunities in the consumer market.

Working directly with our client’s Ian’s responsibility is to offer insight into new ways of working but also to develop BT’s propositions and ensure that we offer the most comprehensive solutions possible. His global business development team focus on working with clients on a consultative basis as a global centre of excellence for our activity across broadcast, film and sport.

On the marketplace:

On customers:
“Commercial opportunities for media companies are rapidly evolving. Our customers need to know where to place their bets, how to exploit new opportunities whilst delivering the best consumer experience possible. Helping them achieve that is what my team is focused on.”

Why do it?
“Everybody in media must be enthused by the opportunity to evolve our business into what it will become in the future and seek out new revenues.  Whilst there are issues to overcome, the challenge, every day, is hugely exhilarating- I can’t think of a better industry to work in right now”

Ian joined BT in July 2000, following significant spells as a Global Account Director for the international division of Telecom Italia and as a business manager for EuroData Com Ltd, one of the UK’s first managed data service providers.

At BT, Ian quickly developed a reputation for flair within business start-up or corporate venturing situations, and his work has spanned a range of sectors, including retail and media to travel and leisure. 

As Head of New Media for BT Entertainment, Ian spearheaded the brand’s drive to deliver consumer entertainment and associated services over broadband, including the delivery of content during the Wimbledon Championships.

His personal passion is microlighting.  Making a successful solo flight just seven hours after stepping into a plane for the first time is one of his proudest achievements.
